SITA SLOVAKIA DID GOOD WORK AT THE "POHODA" MUSIC FESTIVAL

13.07.2011 - Kateřina Kodadová

13. 7. 2011 This year, SITA SLOVAKIA took again care after rubbish and cleaning of the site at the Bažant Pohoda Music Festival at the Trenčín Airport. Visitors, organisers as well as independent observers praised and spoke very highly of SITA Slovakia. And we also added some artwork there by creating fifteen (it was the fifteenth year) storks from plastic bottles as a gift for the organisers. Babies are the symbol of the Pohoda Music Festival and it is said that the babies are being brought by the storks.

This year, SITA SLOVAKIA took again care after rubbish and cleaning of the site at the Bažant Pohoda Music Festival which took place from 7 to 9 July at the Trenčín Airport. The organisers were very happy with the work done by SITA and told us that the music bands playing at the airport were satisfied as well. The music bands were really asking how it was possible that the airport was not covered with tons of rubbish. The airport is always so clean that the people can just lay down on grass or concrete surfaces. SITA Slovakia staff also added some artwork for those visitors who love the art: they created on the site fifteen storks symbolising the bringing of the babies.

When SITA was responsible for waste management on the site, the British Internet server greenmystyle.com ranked the Pohoda Music Festival among the twelve greenest festivals in Europe. The server classifies the festivals from the point of view of waste recycling and environment protection. In particular, the server found the waste separation and cleanliness on the site very good. This year, there were 490 waste bins for plastics, paper, metal, glass and bio-wastes on the site. There were also ten 7 m3 containers and vessels for used kitchen oil from fast food. SITA's equipment incl. pressing containers were available as well.

SITA hired 160 temporary workers who worked 24 hours a day in four shifts to make the site perfectly clean after the visitors left the festival. When the festival was over, cleaning of the airport started. The airport should be perfectly clean once handed over, without a piece of paper on the ground.
Last year we made a new record in Slovakia – most plastic wastes sorted out during one even: 10.4 tons. In 2010, 24% secondary raw materials were sorted out from the collected wastes. In 2011, we would like to be entered into the Slovak Book of Records again - our intention is to overcome the last year record. Results will be known only after all containers with various waste types separated from the solid municipal wastes are collected from the Trenčín Airport.
