Incineration
SITA is an owner of a hazardous waste incinerator in Ostrava, which is the most advanced hazardous waste incinerator in the Central Europe. Its capacity is as many as 18,000 tons of incinerated wastes per year.
The flue treatment system minimises air pollution and ensures that the set emission limits will be fulfilled. An electrostatic filter and a bag filter reduce the contents of dust particles. A three-stage wet scrubber removes mainly HCl, HF, heavy metal sales, and sulphur oxides. The plant includes also a dioxin filter and DENOx catalyst that reduces the contents of nitrogen oxides. The incinerator is fully automated and controlled on the basis of emission continuous measurement. If emission limits are exceeded, the incinerator will be automatically shut down.
Thanks to the advanced equipment this incinerator is the only one in the Czech Republic that has a permit to incinerate wastes containing PCB and freon.
Other SITA's incinerators (located in Olomouc, Zlín, Trmice and Prague – Motol) incinerate mostly hospital wastes.
