ČEZ Distribuce, a.s., 110/22 kV switchgear in Ostrava - Kunčice

Investor: Czech Republic Ministry of Finances

Contaminants: polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and non-polar extractives in soil

Technology: thermic disposal of wastes with over-limit concentration of polychlorinated biphenyls in the hazardous wastes incinerator in Ostrava (the most advanced and unique disposal plant for such wastes in the Czech Republic)
Operator: SPOVO s.r.o. (see SPOVO sub-section on the website)
Price of works: 71 million Kč (2,5 mil €)
Description of the project: remediation of an old environment load caused by leakage of oil containing polychlorinated biphenyls from disused transformers that were stored in past on the panel area in the switchgear premises. The soil was excavated and wastes treated in a thermic plant and placed in protected landfills depending on the level of contamination. The technical and biological land reclamation took place then.

Kovošrot Děčín a.s.

Contaminants: non polar extractives in building structures, soil, and water

Technology: biodegradation and placing in protected landfills, building structures and soil were treated in a gravity sorption treatment system with back penetration – ground water
Price of works: 63.6 million Kč (2.2 mil €)
Description of the project: remediation of an old environment damage caused by continuous leakage of oil substances in past during the processing of waste metal in plants operated by Kovošrot Děčín a.s. Soil from the affected sites was excavated, treated in a bio-degradation plant, and placed in protected landfills. The technical and biological land reclamation took place then. Ground water was remediated and monitored.

Paramo, a.s. – Časy landfill

Contaminants: refinery wastes – sludge (waste acid resin from acid refining of oil and paraffin wax, waste bleaching clay after adsorption refining of soil, oily sludge from gravity traps in wastewater treatment plants, solid wastes from asphalt production, wastes from wastewater clarification in wastewater treatment plants, other refining wastes such as clay and building debris contaminated with refining contaminants produced during the cleaning of boilers)

Technology: production of alternative fuel from wastes + thermic disposal and gravity-sorption cleaning with back penetration - groundwater
Cost of works: 128 mil Kč (4.57 mil €)
Description of the project: reclamation of refining waste landfills, excavation of wastes, production of alternative fuel from wastes, thermic desorption of wastes, bio-degradation, thermic disposal of wastes, technical and biological reclamation, pumping of contaminated rain water from the landfill (pH=1.5). Remediation and monitoring of wastewater from the landfill surroundings.
