This number shows a high technological self-sufficiency that is really unique in waste management. Waste management services have been provided for almost 13,000 customers in Czech Republic and Slovakia. In municipal services, the group provided services for over 510 cities and municipalities totaling over 760,000 citizens. In 2008, we have participated with 19 companies at implementation or keeping of environmental management systems based on ISO 14001.

A series of sanitation and recultivation jobs have been done in 2008 at the same time. These jobs significantly contributed to improvement of the environment in Czech Republic.

The most considerable projects were:

- Landfill recultivation - Malá Ledská,
- Sanitation of spoil dump for acid tars - Paramo a.s.,
- Sanitation of Západočeská plynárenská a.s. facility - area Klatovy,

- 6 incinerators for hazardous waste
- 7 landfills for hazardous and non-hazardous waste
- 7 biodedgradation facilities
- 5 composting plants
- 3 deemulgation and neutralization stations
- 1 light resource processing plant
- 3 solidification plants
- 6 refrigerating equipment modification plants
- 3 crushing plants
- many other storages, collection plants and transfer areas

Particular plants of SITA CS have processed these amounts of waste:

Plants of SITA CS in 2008 Quantity of processed waste (tons)

Landfills 539,000 t
Incinerators 30,976 t
Biodegradation 172,704 t
Composting plants 3,027 t
Deemulgation and neutralization stations 30,445 t
Fluorescent tubes 108 t
Stabilization 2,196 t
Refrigerating equipment 956 t
Electrical appliances 1,526 t

The landfills in Němčice nad Hanou and in Rapotín are since 2005 equipped with active deaeration system with electricity generation. In 2008, there has been 7,761,096 cu m of methane and produced 1,828 MWh of "green electricity". Due to landfilling, 9,400 cu m of infiltration water has been created and disposed.

In material flow management and further better utilization of secondary raw materials, the amount of assorted and further utilized material (paper, plastic, metals, wood) has been increased by 38.6% compared to 2007 to total of 65,514.1 t. A new transportation of piece waste and secondary raw materials has been introduced using the country-wide ADR transportation named SITA TRANSPORT. This has started a new effective and cost-saving waste transportation.

Innovation, development and modernization of technology, group acquisitions

SITA CS group has made significant investments in 2008 in projects and purchase of plants as well s companies that have upgraded and extended the technology background of the group and facilities. The entire investment exceeded in 2008 the amount of 274 million CZK.

The contemporary incinerators of dangerous waste have been extended in 2008 by facilities in Zlín (EMSEKO) and Plzeň (T.O.P. EKO). SITA CS has significantly enhanced the leading position in these lines of business. Significant has also been the purchase of the remaining share in SPOVO and RESON.

A great contribution has been the building and inauguration of the Logistic Center in Brno that allows very effective, advanced and ecological waste management in particular region. The result has been the winning of solid municipal waste collection in Brno where SITA CZ operates for 45,000 citizens. By extending our composting plants by Centrální kompostárna Brno with capacity of 30,000 t/year, this prospective area has been reinforced.

Within the modernization, further arrangements have been done:

- at deemulgation and neutralization stations:
" New sludge plant in Soběslav
" Introduction of lab in Soběslav
" Sedimentation sump in Frýdek-Místek

- in landfills:
" Partial recultivation of landfills - RESON and Rapotín
" Construction of two fields of landfill RESON, in the amount of over 200,000 cu m and area of 14,000 sq m.
" Construction of new water management system in Všebořice landfill.
