Biodegradation

In biodegradation, the concentration of oil substances and poly-aromatic hydrocarbons is reduced. SITA utilises that method to treat contaminated soil, concrete, debris, oily sludge from washes, oil traps, and treatment stations. SITA runs biodegradation plants in several places in the Czech Republic. After the initial concentration of contaminants is determined, the waste is spread on a protected decontamination area. If needed, the physical, chemical and/or biological environment is modified. Then, a biological agent is applied and decontamination starts. The process is monitored continuously, and conditions in the bio-degrading waste are modified. The decontaminated materials are re-used depending on their quality.
